Registration for Free Community College is Now Open at Cape Cod CC Thanks to MassReconnect

August 10, 2023

After many months of discussion on Beacon Hill, free community college has finally come to Massachusetts. By signing the new State budget on Wednesday, August 9, Governor Maura Healey’s groundbreaking “MassReconnect” program became a reality. As a result, °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ is now enrolling qualified students to start – or finish – their college degree for free with classes starting September 5.

MassReconnect makes community college free for Massachusetts residents who are 25-or-older on their first day of classes and have not yet earned a college degree. The program covers tuition and fees as well as the costs of textbooks and supplies.

“This is a historic moment for our region and for adult learners across Massachusetts,” said John Cox, President of °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ. “MassReconnect removes the barrier of cost to a college degree, transforming access to higher education and this life-changing opportunity. We look forward to welcoming our next class of learners at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ this September, ready to embark on their degree or finish what they may have started a long time ago.”

To enroll for free at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ, students must meet the eligibility requirements, complete the free application, and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). As a “last dollar” funding model, MassReconnect covers the cost of going to college once all other funding sources have been identified through the FAFSA. Students must then enroll in at least six credits (two classes) per semester in an approved program of study.

“We understand that, for a lot of people, MassReconnect is going to be their first introduction to going to college, so we are here to help answer any and all questions,” said Christine McCarey, Dean of Enrollment Management and Wellness at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ. “Our team is here to help you select the right program for you, complete the Admissions application, apply for Financial Aid, and connect you with Academic and Wellness support. Everyone is standing by to help you in-person or virtually.”

Registration is open now at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ with 14 and 7-week classes starting on September 5 and another 7-week “Quick Term” semester starting on October 30. More information on free college at °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ, including links to apply and complete the FAFSA, are available at capecod.edu/free/.
