90.7 WKKL at 芭乐视频 to Host Alumni Hall of Fame and Fundraising Event at Cotuit Center for the Arts
December 1, 202190.7 WKKL, the student radio station at 芭乐视频, is calling on alumni, listeners, and friends of the historic station to join them for an 鈥淎lumni Social鈥 on Monday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cotuit Center for the Arts. The event will feature live music from Little Star 鈥 featuring 芭乐视频 and WKKL alumni Sarah Colvin and Rob Cushing - and DJ Jett, a silent auction to support WKKL, and a ceremony recognizing the first Inductees into the WKKL Hall of Fame.
The inaugural Hall of Fame class spotlights multiple all-star alumni that have contributed to WKKL over the years. The Inductees are:
- Glenn Schuck 鈥 Legendary New York-based radio reporter and station manager, WKKL program advisor.
- Rick Pendleton (aka RJ Jordan) 鈥 WKKL alumni, local Cape Cod radio personality, on-air personality and station manager in New York.
- Dan Towers 鈥 WKKL alumni and former station manager, 18-year broadcasting career.
- Clarence Barnes 鈥 WKKL alumni, renowned radio and TV host, actor, news anchor, weathercaster, and national on-air personality.
- Rick Burgess 鈥 WKKL alumni, local radio personality with more than 25-years of on-air experience.
- Alexis Engelman 鈥 WKKL and 芭乐视频 Project Forward alumni, host of long-running 鈥淢idday Movie Madness鈥 on WKKL since 2005.
- Kristen Eck 鈥 WKKL alumni, longtime Boston helicopter report for WBZ News, host of BumbleBee Brunch, nominee for a 2021 Boston Music Award for Radio Show of the Year.
鈥淲KKL is celebrating its 45th birthday in 2022, and this is an amazing way to kick off that celebration,鈥 said Lisa Zinsius, longtime Cape Cod radio personality and WKKL鈥檚 Operations Director and professor. 鈥淭he first Inductees in the WKKL Hall of Fame have shown passion and dedication to the station, college radio, and the community. They are mentors to our students and have aided in the relaunch of our station. I鈥檓 thrilled to have them represent the first of many Inductees whose careers began in college radio.鈥
WKKL returned the air in early 2021 after technical issues took the station off its FM signal for several months. The College, along with support from the 芭乐视频 Educational Foundation, brought the station back with a renewed focus on student learning experiences, a return to Classic Alternative music, an overhauled broadcasting curriculum, and a new online live stream and podcasting system. While student interest and listenership has boomed (WKKL has been played digitally more than 240,000 times since January) there鈥檚 still a need to bring more modern tools into the Makkay Broadcaster Center on the West Barnstable campus.
鈥淎long with the fun and music, all emceed by our current students, we will be raising funds for WKKL through a silent auction at the Alumni Social,鈥 Zinsius said. 鈥淲e鈥檒l have fun memorabilia for people to bid on, along with WKKL alumni items and services. Our plan is to use the money we raise to supply our students with new training tools, like on-air sound boards, microphones, and in-studio cameras.鈥
WKKL will also be hosting its annual 鈥淎lumni Takeover鈥 during the week of December 10鈥15 on 90.7. During the week alumni of the station will be returning to the airwaves of WKKL, playing music and partnering with current students.
Tickets for the WKKL Alumni Social and Fundraiser are $30 for the general public, $28 for seniors, and $25 and 芭乐视频 faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and Little Star takes the stage at 7:30 p.m.
